Liverpool vs SHEFFIELD UNITED

The last game that we played away against Liverpool in the league, was the season that we were relegated from the Premier League in the 1993/94 season. Even though we were seriously struggling in that season, Jostein Flo scored twice to give the Blades a surprise victory, in a 2-1 scoreline. This looked as if it would help give United the boost to stay up but we were finally relegated due to the strange results that went on during the final games of the season.

This time though, Liverpool are clear favourites and having just defeated Barcelona in the Nou Camp will be high on confidence. The goalscorers on Wednesday night were Craig Bellamy and John Arne Riise, two players who were reportedly involved in a fracas in which Bellamy was seen hitting Riise with a golf club. Bellamy mocked these claims by swinging an imaginary golf club after the equaliser and things now seem to have died down.

We will feel that we stand a chance of getting something out of the game though, after the impressive 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in our previous Premiership match. With Matthew Kilgallon and Mikele Leigertwood returning to fitness things are also looking up in the tussle for places in the side. I would think that Neil Warnock may stick with the same side that beat Spurs, which was as follows; Kenny, Geary, Lucketti, Jagielka, Armstrong, Kazim-Richards, Tonge, Montgomery, S.Quinn, Hulse and Stead.

Stats: Sheffield United- 15th 30 points
Highest achievable after Saturday's matches: 12th
Lowest could fall: 16th

1. Our last four Premiership matches have resulted in a loss, win, loss, win.

2. Our current tally of 30 points after 27 matches is the club's best yet in the Premiership. We had 28 points after 28 matches in our initial season in this League in 1992-93, when we finished 14th.

Liverpool-3rd 50 points
Highest achievable after Saturday's matches: 3rd
Lowest could realistically fall: 3rd
1. Won four and lost one of the last six in all competitions.

2. Won nine of 12 Premiership matches.

3. Kept clean sheets in 12 of the last 15 top flight games.

My personal Prediction is 2-0 Liverpool. Hopefully not, but i think our strong resolve will eventually be broken down by the class of players such as Gerrard and Kuyt. Please feel free to post your views...

David Sommeil set for move?

Latest news on the Blades front is that Burnley are looking to take United defender, David Sommeil, on loan before a possible free transfer in the Summer. Neil Warnock is unhappy with the way Sommeil has played and would like to get rid of his £500,000 a year contract from the wage bill.
Sommeil was a free transfer last summer from Manchester City, who had previously paid £3.6 million for the defender. His last game for the Blades was the humiliating home defeat to Swansea City.
The 32-year old was born in 1974 in Guadeloupe.Sommeil started his career with non-league Saint-Lo before turning professional with SM Caen.He then played for Rennes before moving to Bordeaux.
